December 5, 2017 at 9-5pmBuy Tickets
Our oceans cover over 70% of the planet’s surface and are vital to all forms of life, including humans. From moderating our climate and weather to influencing our fresh water and soil cycles, they provide primary sustenance to over 2 billion people. With more coastline than any other country in the world, protecting our oceans is crucial to Canada’s future. As they become increasingly threatened by climate change, pollution, and overfishing, Canada has committed to becoming a global leader in marine protection by pledging to permanently safeguard 10% of its ocean by 2020, as agreed to under international targets.
Join leading ocean scientists, storytellers, Indigenous leaders and government stakeholders as they look towards 2020 in this compelling conference exploring the status of Canada’s marine conservation programs, and our role in protecting the oceans that sustain us.
This full day symposium, taking place on Tuesday December 5th, will cover many exciting topics and panel discussions including:
- Diving into ocean science
- Tales from the tide
- Tallurutiup Imanga: Building successful Marine Protected Areas
- Making waves toward 2020
Snacks during the break will include Ocean Wise recommended smoked salmon from De la mer fish market!
